I dont know if anyone else has had these sort of faults, but I thought I would mention them.
1. The radio was bought knowing the light sensor was not functioning, easy fix I thought.
2. When I got the radio the volume control was not functioning correctly, one channel would not turn all the way down.
3. I also found later that the tone control only effected one channel.
4. The last fault was the stereo LED would not function and the set was in permanent mono.
Fault 1. I looked at this but could not find anything wrong, on reassembly it worked, the LEDs went dim when I placed my hand over the LDR sensor.
Fault 2. This was a bit of a puzzle but turned out to be the track rubbed away at one end on one channel. No idea how that happened as it did not look tampered with, I fixed it and all the other pots at the same time by dabbing some silver loaded paint onto the track end and rivet which fixes the solder tag.
Fault 3. Fixed as per 2.
Fault 4. This had me puzzled as well because it was working before, maybe a wire had come loose whilst I had been working on the other faults.
No loose wires, but I did notice under my magnifier light a white deposit across 2 terminals of the IF filter. I scraped it away with a blunt object and gave it a good brush with spirit. The stereo light worked well after that.
The IF filter (I think) is the little 3 legged orange blob with the red dot.
Sorry I forgot to take photos of the volume pot repair.
