I just checked - its giving 2.7 V but drops to 2 on load

If you need 2 volts for LT go for a cyclon battery like this one

I had three at one time, two I gave away and the remaining one is in my Pye battery set. They are easy to recharge and last for years.

I've got two lead acid batteries both 2 volt that I use - see the third pic. I use them as 2 or 4 volts depending how I hook them up - the replica 2 volt is just for looks and fun.

The TIP31 is a commonplace medium power transistor. As pwdrive has said it's been strapped as a diode. A 1N4001 etc would have done just as well. If the LT is within range then leave it as is. Otherwise Trevor's suggestion of a cyclon is a good one. Actually any 2V lead acid cell would be fine though not as long lasting and tough as a Cyclon.

Just seen how well I actually did do.

One of these in the same condition as mine sold last night on eBay for just under £500.

I've got a good collection of early Marconi sets now but I think I better catalogue them (and others) so my kids don't let them go for peanuts when the time comes.
