Interesting stations?

Hi Alan,
Maybe: I'm not sure if the 'multiple of 9' rule applies to SW broadcasting; the freqs. for RA are as listed on their website. At the same time, the freqs. I listed were those read directly off the tuning scale of the Racal: I didn't do spot freq. checks with the synthesised sig. gen. I also note that the freqs. listed by Andrew aren't multiples of 9 either.
So - can anyone shed some further light on this? Is my first phrase in the above correct?

I believe it's a 5khz spacing on SW for public broadcasting, 9 for MW/LW though 10 for Stateside.

R. Australia at S5 here @ 15.02, this is being cut across by Voice of Russia on 9470 (a freq. aimed at the Middle East) and an Arabic? station on 9480. I've also got a station broadcasting a S9 contant tone signal on CW on 9479 which is affecting reception.

Athmeeya Yatra Radio (tx.Wertachtal, Germany) S9, can't understand a word but nice happy music.

Also, for those with USB capability, a EAM from Andrews AFB on 11175 @14.55

Forgot to add: if you want to find out what stations are broadcasting in English at a particular time or just what is that you're listening to on 12345 then this site is very good

Good Lord so it does! I've never heard of Cas either I'm just north of Cambridge, little town called St Ives.

Thank you Andrew. Yes, I've heard of St. Ives, but have never been there. (Perhaps 'Cas' was a typo for 'Cambs' - as in 'Cambridge' ?)

Just out of curiousity - and to 'flesh out' this fascinating Thread - would you care to give a few brief details of your receiving gear? Thanks.

Nothing special, an old Radio Shack DX394B, a Sony ICF 7600 and a Uniden 3500 for VHF/UHF. About 80 feet of Racal HF dipole wire around the loft as a SW aerial straight into the back of the RX's and the 3500 has a homemade dipole.

Main listening is done on a Murphy A104 and that Ekco A173 I restored a few months ago (in Success Stories on UKVRR), I just twiddle about on these and then capture the exact frequencies on the digital sets if I find something good and want to record the details.

I'd certainly love a RA17 or even a more expensive digital comms receiver but can't justify the expense, let alone squeeze a vintage comms receiver into the box room which is my 'office'

Thanks Andrew. I must confess that 'from the top of my head', none of those radios are immediately known to me. I'm from the 'old school' of ex-WWII receivers, Eddystones and the like, although I do have a couple of Yaesu-Musen radios and a Icom IC-R7000 in the shack, and a Marconi CR100 should be joining them soon.

Anyway, today, November 12, mid-afternoon, I had a quick listen around the 10-metre Amateur Radio band on my Eddystone 888A: what a surprise! I copied stations from Malta (Gozo Island), Russia (European and Asiatic) and Greece amongst others: all at signal strengths between good to very loud; most with occasional slow fading. A few USA stations were heard - at much weaker signal levels, but perfectly readable. The most surprising was a European Russian station, UR5QGC, towards the top end of the band on amplitude modulation. However, by dusk, the band had gone very quiet - as you would expect.
I've always had a fondness for the 10m. AmRad band: you never know what to expect, and when 'conditions' are right, signals do come stomping in!
