32 yr old R/C Model Boat refurb!

Yes, that was my worry - my helicopters are obviously using the 35Mhz frequencies reserved for helicopters.

If I'd have got my Belt CP v2 six months later, it would have come with 2.4GHz radio gear - but as I live in a relatively interference free location, the older 35MHz works just fine so I see no reason to upgrade it. At least not until I learn to stop crashing in extravagant and expensive ways - there's a serious amount of power in those rotors.

Just to get back into the swing of things, I've attached a pic of the model boat that - along with my younger son (now 43) - we've refurbished after it having been in the lost for more than thirty years. Along with my son, we took the model boat to the Hull model boat lake yesterday to give it an outing. He'd made and painted a few crew figures which are dotted around the boat, going about their chores.

It sailed really well - a nice 'lad n dad' bonding event which we both enjoyed on a glorious afternoon.

That's a great bit of craft work, David. I've only ever built a full-size boat - but I did go in for flying model aircraft in my boyhood. Looking at the superb job you've done with this boat makes me want to build one myself. Trouble is, there's no conveniently-located boating pond that I know of at present. I'll have to make enquiries. But when could I fit it in?
You must feel very proud of your achievement. This is one thing I like Golborne for - it allows us to deviate without penalty!

What a beauty David and a top class job you've made of it too. I've been privileged to see other pictures of this lovely boat and it must have brought great joy to your son when it was first made as it does now so many years later. Well done.

We're quite lucky as there's a splendid model boat lake to the East of Hull about 8 miles from here. On Tuesday afternoons and Saturdays there are several members of the local model boat group get togther to sail their boats, but anyone can go there, and during the week the lake is little used. It's really quite large - I've attached a pic taken last Friday, of my son operating the boat, which give an idea of the size of the lake. The kit was modelled on an actual Thames Fire Boat, and is about 3ft long and 8 or 9 inches wide. It was made from beech ply and spruce spars, but nowadays they all seem to be either GRP hulls or balsa wood of all things. I can understand using balsa for model plane airframes where lightness is an issue, but it seems quite unsuited to boats, as compared to beech ply.

Well Tony, I've shown my boat - what about giving us all a viewing of the splendid fort that you've recently built for your lucky grandson, which would gladden any boy's eye!
