Hi, Amie, I must admit that when I last worked somewhere where we used isolating transformers, the RCBO hadn't been invented (as far as I know!)
This was back in the early 1970s. I was working at the London Stock Exchange on a 22 channel cable TV system to display market prices. When the service started we had a small workshop in another building but needed more room as the service expanded and more engineers were taken on. We were given a suitably large space in the main Stock Exchange Tower.
Previously we used stand alone transformers but asked if each bench position could be provided with a 200VA isolated supply.
One day, my manager and I went to see how the work was progressing. The benches were already in place and metal trunking ran up the wall to the consumer unit but there was a mysterious metal box built into it about a third of the way up.
"What's that?" I asked. "Oh, that's the isolating transformer - we had it made specially!" "THE isolating transformer ...?"
Needless to say, when we moved in there was a 200VA transformer mounted under each bench position - all except for one, of course!
